On this page, you’ll get a better understanding of the heart beat of our church. Here at Morning Star Mahapawn Chiang Mai Church, we believe in the teachings of the Bible in both letter and Spirit. The best way to answer the question of who we are is as follows:
We are Christians who have all been saved by His Grace, Love, Mercy and Forgiveness.
Our Vision
While we see serving God as something that seeps into the very fabric of every day life, Morning Star Church’s vision can be categorized into 4 main areas.
Share the Gospel with Local Thais
Thailand remains one of the most unreached countries in the world. Christians make up less than 1% of the country’s population. While some may view such a situation as being an insurmountable challenge, we view it as nothing but an opportunity for the power of God to be put on display.
Striving to Impact the Community
As the Bible says, we cannot love God without also loving others. In sharing Christ’s love with others, we aim to provide for both the physical and spiritual needs of our community. Whether it means providing food and supplies during difficult economic times or simply ministering to those in need of support, we desire to improve the quality of life of those around us and positively impact them in any way possible.
Building believers to be Disciples of Jesus Christ
As we are called to “make disciples of all nations”, we first acknowledge that this cannot be done without the help of His Holy Spirit. We strive to provide Christians with mentorship and support to help our members grow in their own personal walks with Christ.
Prepare Believers for Tomorrow
As children of God, we desire to be the “salt and light” of the earth for the purpose of glorifying our Father in heaven. The world is going through unprecedented changes many of which will test the foundation of our faith. By staying focused on our purpose, we are automatically prepared to face the uncertainties of tomorrow. We aim to teach our members to set their hopes upon the solid rock of Christ.
Our Church’s History
Morning Star Church focuses on 3 main areas:
- Helping believers to fulfill the Great Commission of spreading the Gospel and making disciples of all nations
- Church growth is not measured merely by the size of a congregation but by the strength of its foundation. We know that spiritual growth is most important and that as long as that remains the priority, the size of the church will grow naturally and according to His leading.
- Preparing Christians to better serve others with the love, compassion, and truth of Christ.
Morning Star Church was named out of reverence for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In Revelations 22:16 Jesus refers to himself as the “bright Morning Star” and we embrace His title as a fitting name for our ministry.
From the beginning, this church was rooted in a simple desire to share the love of Christ with others. The idea of Christ-centered can take on many different meanings depending on who you ask. For us, it means that Christ is to be firmly established as our root in all things. It is loving God with all our heart and soul by loving our neighbors as ourselves. It is the very foundation on which we’ve built the vision of this church.
Morning Star Church got its start from a small home church.
“Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” 5 Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.“
– Haggai 1:4-5
The above scripture carries a special meaning for Acharn Korn, the pastor of Morning Star Church. It’s a message that served as a reminder and motivation for him to return back to his hometown of Chiang Mai, Thailand.
In 2018, Acharn Korn and his wife returned to his hometown of Chiang Mai, Thailand after being in America for 11 years to complete his seminary education. It was a calling God planted deep in his heart. And although Acharn Korn had plenty of experience setting up churches within Thai communities in the U.S., doing the same thing in Thailand would be present a new set of challenges. Despite limited resources and with nothing but a steadfast faith and trust in His calling, Acharn Korn started Morning Star Church.
On August 5, 2018, Morning Star Church held its first worship service. This event was a true testament to God’s sovereign provision, grace, and love. The leadership of iServe, a Christian organization, were part of the founding members of Morning Star Church and allowed the church to use their organization’s building to hold services.
In the midst of a global pandemic, we’ve watched God grow our church in both measurable and immeasurable ways. What started as a group of 6 people in a small home church at the onset of Covid, has grown into a core group of 40 members over the span of 3 years.
